Enterprise Architect now supports Flex

The new eclipse integration in Enterprise Architect now supports Flex through their Model Driven Generation feature. The latest release of the Eclipse integration brings advanced modeling capabilities right inside Eclipse. Several new enhancements and performance improvements are also included. Take a sneak peak @ http://www.sparxsystems.com/products/ea/history.html.

  1. Hi Max,

I looked unsuccessfully for the sneak peak you cite at the link you provided (the Enterprise Architect Recent Features page).

Can you provide detail on what in particular I can look for on that page?

Also, the only mention of Flex that I can find on the sparxsystems.com site is in the middle of this press release from March (under heading "Now in BETA ...":

It would be great to have a solid UML tool for Flex/ActionScript.

  2. There is a "Try" button on the upper left corner of the page in gray. It takes you to a place where you can download the product for 30days.

  3. Enterprise Architect doesn't support .mxml files, only .as files. I've logged a feature request with them but at time of writing they tell me there are no plans to support .mxml files....

  4. I've done a little work with the mdg technology in EA. I have a feeling that getting the technology to work with mxml is just too much effort for them to bite off for a relatively small portion of their potential market.

The shape of .as files is a more natural fit for mdg. I think if Flex winds up commanding a large population of developers, they may revisit the mxml option.
