  1. My memory is that it was Pierre Barral who first ran the event, in the days of the San Francisco Suicide Club, but it got popularized by the Cacophony Society in the mid-90s:

    (I saw a bunch of them in SF Muni on Saturday... my takeaway is that it was a way to do a "our group rules, your group droolz" type of reaction to people who were enjoying the season in the majority way.)

  2. I can't help picturing Dan Akroyd from Trading Places. That was a great Santa character.
